The Role Of Science In Religion. 11/21/2014 (Evening thought)

Daniel 1:3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes; 4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

This passage of scripture teaches us that there is no conflict of interest between science and religion, for the foundation of God's government, and the essence of the plan of salvation, as wrought out on Calvary, are forms of sciences of which we know very little. The word which describes one of the attributes of God, "Omniscience" is actually derived from two words, Omni, meaning limitless, and science, which means the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical, natural, and spiritual world. As it pertains to The God-head, the Bible gives us a faint glimpse of the vast treasures of knowledge and understanding that God has at His disposal, thus showing us that those things which have been revealed to us are just the tip of the iceberg. Let's read:

Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Ist Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For instance, the Bible teaches us in the book of Isaiah that the earth is round, thus dispelling the ancient unfounded myth of a flat earth, and the scriptures also teach us that there are trillions of celestial bodies out in deep space, many of which we have never heard of, or even discovered, and they are all upheld by the omnipotent power of God, exercised night and day to prevent them from annihilating our tiny planet. All of this has to do with science that is light years ahead of our limited knowledge and understanding of how the universe works. Let's read:

Genesis 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

Isaiah 40:13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him? 14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?  15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance" .... 17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. 26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

And because of these manifestations of God's omnipotence and omniscience, there cannot be any conflict between true science and religion, for God is the author of both physical and spiritual laws, which govern the entire universe and all those who dwell therein. True science will always confirm the truths of God's word and never ever pits our very limited knowledge against what God has spoken authoritatively, as the false theory of evolution tries to do. One of the stumbling blocks to our current understanding of the sciences in the secular world, is the sacred truth that God does not need any raw materials in order to create anything. It is true that at times He does use preexisting materials according to His own will, but He is never restricted to this method as we are, because He has the ability to speak physical things into existence from nothing. Let's read:

Psalms 33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. 10 The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

But there is a false type of science currently in circulation amongst the masses of earth's inhabitants which seeks in vain to divorce God from His creative works. The "Big Bang" theory which is now currently taught in most of our schools will one day be overthrown with a big bang, for any type of science or research that eliminates God from the equation is false, and should never be incorporated into religion. As a matter of fact, all of the so-called research and scientific knowledge which the secular world boasts of does not even faze God, for they are considered by Him to be foolishness. Let's read:

1st Corinthians 1:9 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

Therefore true science is to be used to validate and confirm what God has already stated, and as Christians we are never to wait for our finite certification, before we believe with all our hearts. As a matter of fact we are to believe before we verify, for in so doing our minds are actually expanded to receive a much deeper, and more extensive understanding of the sciences. We therefore end with a passage of scripture which teaches us to walk humbly with God, and not lift ourselves up against the knowledge of The Most High, for His knowledge, methods, and ways are past finding out, and we as His creatures are dependent on Him for everything that pertains to our existence. Let's read:

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

May God add His blessing to the study and practice of His word. "Good night" and God bless!
