The Sabbath In The New Earth. 10/31/2014 (Evening Thought)

Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

This passage of scripture teaches us the sacred truth that the Sabbath of the fourth commandment will be kept in heaven, and in the new earth which God shall create after the final conflagration that will destroy sin and the author of sin. After the fall of man, Adam and Eve were shut out from the immediate presence of God, and this was done in mercy so that they would not be consumed by His glory which destroys sin wherever it is found, and as a result, the knowledge and validity of the seventh day Sabbath gradually faded from the consciences of men, especially in those who preferred to forget about God. For instance, when the Bible states that Cain went out from the presence of God, it means that he turned His back not only on the Personage of God, but also on His laws, instructions and statutes that were given as the rule and guide of life.  Let's read:

Genesis 4:16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

And with the passage of time only a minority of earth's inhabitants continue to keep the Sabbath through the centuries. Especially is this the case in the larger metropolitan cities of the world, which usually follow in the footsteps of Cain, the first city builder. There are many Christians who claim to love God, yet many of them are either ignorant of the validity of God's commandments, or they have reasoned away the necessity of keeping the Sabbath for various reasons, the main one being that it calls for decision and sacrifice in order to do so.

But if we intend to go to heaven when Christ comes to claim His own, we will have to be in harmony with His law in every particular, according to the knowledge of the truth which we have had at our disposal, and therefore it becomes necessary that we begin by obeying Him whilst here on this earth, so that the habit of obedience would have become a vital part of our characters. Whatever we practice doing is what we will continue to do when Jesus resurrects us, with no change whatsoever in our characters, and since practice makes perfect, we are enjoined in the scriptures to obey God's voice today.

The Sabbath in the earth made new will be a time when we will enjoy open communion with Christ who died for us, and He will open before our admiring minds the riches of His grace and creative works, knowledge and revelations that will far surpass anything that we have ever seen or known. This truth is confirmed by the apostle Paul who states that as far as knowledge and revelations of God are concerned, we haven't seen anything as yet, except what we are privileged to grasp dimly in the Bible and through the enlightenment of The Holy Spirit. Let's read:

1st Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

It is our privilege and duty to keep God's holy day of rest, so that our hearts and minds can be drawn into closer fellowship with our Creator and with one another. Even though in the new earth there will be no such thing as being tired from six days of labor, yet we will need to rest, to put aside the many other pursuits we will be involved with, to worship and spend that quality time with God, that we so often deprive ourselves of down here on this earth. Many of our physical activities like planting and building, which we allow to draw us away from the keeping of the Sabbath, will also be engaged in by those who will be saved, yet they will not allow the interest in material things to shut out God from their thoughts, as is so often the case on this planet. Let's read:

Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. 24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

It is the will of God that every member of the human family be saved in His kingdom, and He has granted to us ample opportunity to be saved by being found in Christ, and by obeying His every word. Let us therefore step up to the plate through the grace of God, by doing those things that are right and pleasing in His sight, so that sweet fellowship instead of alienation, will be our experience with God and with one another, both now and for all eternity. "Good night" and God bless!
