Romans 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
and thus, if the Christian were to take it upon himself to use ways and means that are sourced from our fallen human nature, that will mark a departure from the instruction given, and all those who go that route will be overcome. In fact, what the Christian really needs more than ever is a thorough conversion and a change of heart, like Peter because whatsoever we say and do will be representative of what is abiding in our hearts.
And as such, out of the abundance of the heart a mouth will speak, and the mind will act. Therefore, the counter currency to violence will be gentleness, the counter currency to arguments will be meekness and when persons are treated unjustly the counter currency will be to overcome evil with good. Individuals and nations are never changed for the better, by employing tit for tat principles.
These tools are only to be found in satan’s tool kit, but in Christ’s tool kit there are no such tools to be found. Thus, when faced with injustice, Peter used the tool of revenge, but Christ reached for the tool of mercy, by which He rendered good, for the evil done to Himself. The kingdom of darkness recognizes its followers as those who utilize its ways and means, and its tools for any reason.
Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
